Puzzle Games That Don't Waste Your Time

A good puzzle game feels like a conversation. It asks a question, you answer, and it responds with something a little harder. A bad one just throws walls at you and hopes frustration keeps you scrolling.

The best mobile puzzlers I've played share a few habits. They save instantly, they never punish you for stepping away, and their hint systems nudge rather than hand you the solution. Tile Tumble does all three, which is why it stayed installed.

Difficulty should ramp, not spike. When a game suddenly demands a leap it never taught you, that's not challenge, it's bad tutorial design. Watch for that in the middle stretch of any puzzler.

My rule of thumb: if I can finish a level in the time it takes a bus stop to arrive, and pick up cleanly next time, it's a keeper. Everything else is optional.
